This book was unrealistic and no where near any kind of truth. No police officer would ever act in that manner, even in a book of fiction.
Don’t believe all 4 or 5 stars. The self-centered, self-righteous, out of control detective, arresting people without warrant, entering and searching without permission, beating people, disobedience. What is the difference between the bad detective and criminal?
This book was engaging.
It’s tightly written at 174 pages with almost non-stop action.
Keri Locke, the main character, is a bit of a cliché in that she’s a detective driven by her demons. Pierce does a good job of showing us how the kidnapping of her daughter has affected her without beating us over the head with her angst. Although I thought her ‘zoning out’ regularly was a bit overdone.
There’s also a bit of a trope here in that Keri defies her superiors to a level that would get any mortal cop benched for a long time but ends up the heroine in the end.
Don’t believe everything you read in the back cover blurb. There’s a falsehood there.
Still the story was good enough that I’ll be back for more.

This had potential but got so eye-rolling ridiculous, it was hard to finish. The violent action scenes were just childish as she fought with 200 lb men and beat them, in spite of being choked, having bones broken, etc. Just plain silly. Glad this was free!
This was pretty good, I can't say I care a lot for Keri and the way she works as a detective.
But it did keep my interest, although I did skip several pages that were not interesting to me.
Mainly details of a room, or going on and on repeating things. Not sure why authors do that
but many seem to think the readers are too dumb to remember from one page to the next and
keep repeating details they already told us many times. Makes me roll my eyes and skip pages.
Keri does a lot that should get her fired, I think she would be better off going into the PI business.
But if your looking for a decent mystery, this one isn't bad...

With so many murder mysteries in the marketplace, finding one with an original storyline that provides enough twists and turns to hold the reader's interest is difficult. Blake Pierce brings a ruggedness to the heroine of Keri Locke and yet with enough vulnerability to captivate the reader.
I can't devote large chunks of time to reading so I enjoyed the fact that this story allows the reader to enjoy small snippets without losing the plot. Also, I hate overly complicated stories where I need to keep a list of characters on a note pad in order to maintain an semblance of who did what to whom, I had a list of 21 characters in a book I recently quit reading due to the problem of constantly having to take notes. Anyway read this book, you will enjoy it!
